“There’s a world behind the world we see that is the same world but more open, more transparent, without blocks. Like inside a big mind, the animals and humans all can talk, and those who pass through here get power to heal and help.”  Gary Snyder

The world of energy is not separate from the solid world. This view always comes through in my art. I wish to share this fluid world where there are many forms of communication that take place in the symbolic realm.

My art making is a mediumistic endeavor and a redemptive act evoking form from the formless, creating bridges between the worlds, the invisible and visible. The animals and birds in my work appear as beneficent visitors from the “world behind the world.”

I went seeking them: the white deer. They appeared in the hazy distance floating on the green meadow like clouds, heads turned in unison. They were poised on the crest of a green wave called Divide Meadow on the Point Reyes peninsula. The luminous white shapes emerged from the deep evergreen at the edge of awareness…a waking dream of glowing silence. I approached to catch a glimpse as they vanished into flickering light.
